PeaceHealth is seeking a Cancer Research Associate - Bellingham, Cancer Center (Per Diem) for a per diem, Variable shift position.

JOB SUMMARY

Plan, organize, complete and monitor research patient follow-up. Assist with new patient accrual, quality auditing and specimen management. Develop, maintain and monitor research patient database.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Retrieve, verify and report information on cancer research patients in active treatment (oral agents) and in long-term follow-up per protocol requirements.

2. Develop and maintain Access database. Load all data and develop SQL queries. Prepare and report statistical and financial data.

3. Responsible for ongoing maintenance of patient-related research expenses and research base reimbursements. Responsible for monitoring and maintenance of research-related accounts.

4. Assist physicians, nurses, pharmacists and research bases with questions related to patient study calendars, protocol requirements, dose modifications and adverse event grading and reporting.

5. Assist and verify new patient accrual, work-up and registration to include pre-study audit of eligibility check list per protocol guidelines.

6. Meet with patients to conduct completion of quality of life and other study-related symptoms logs. Collect study required biological specimens.

7. Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:     

  • Specialized training of 13+ months in clinical trials and/or tumor registry.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:              

  • Minimum one year in clinical trials, tumor registry or oncology nursing (or equivalent education and/or experience).

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:            

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers required upon hire.

OTHER SKILLS: 

  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to review data and report appropriately.
  • Good analytical/critical thinking skills.
  • Highly detail oriented and organized.
  • Good understanding of research concepts and standards.
  • Strong extracting and reporting data from electronic medical records.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Medical terminology.

ST JOSEPH PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work requires normal amounts of physical effort at least 66% of the time.             
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 10 lbs. or less.      
  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.        
  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (34-65% of work time).
