PeaceHealth is seeking a CAO Peace Harbor for a 1.0 full time equivalent Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of 8 Hours.


Responsible for the development of an effective operational referral network and surrounding counties and areas in support of the Hospital Services critical access objectives and ensure safe evidenced based, compassionate care for patients.

Emphasis is placed on development of relationships with providers and facilities within the Hospital Services for the purposes of potential collaboration and/or shared services.  Responsibilities also include planning/directing and the delivery of services consistent with PeaceHealth’s strategic plans, providing leadership for the development of healthcare services, promoting physician and community relationships and promoting management/employee behaviors that contribute to the achievement of the goals and objectives of PeaceHealth. Ensure that clinical support services are coordinated across staff, functions, and activities in order to improve patient care and clinical outcomes.

Leads the operations and maintains accountability for the overall administration and management of both in providing efficient, high quality, patient/family focused care.  Leads in the development of Hospital Services as state and national leaders of quality and safety standards for Critical Access Hospitals.

  • Provides operational and financial leadership which results in a vibrant organization that is responsive to the needs of the communities it serves in a manner consistent with the mission, values, and vision of PeaceHealth. 
  • Develops an organizational culture that is values-driven and promotes positive, highly engaged, collaborative relationships among the various participants, (e.g., caregivers, patients, Board members, Network and System leadership, medical staff and community members, etc.) and is respectful of the dignity and worth of each person, particularly the most vulnerable.
  • Responsible for operational referral network development. Develop relationships with facilities and providers in local community and the Hospital Services for the purposes of potential collaboration and/or shared services.
  • Serves as a collaborator and partner to the efforts of the PeaceHealth Foundation and philanthropy. Works closely with foundation to cultivate, plan and execute philanthropic goals that best serve the organization and community.
  • Works closely with the medical staff and other providers to ensure that the highest quality of service is being delivered to the patients; participating in medical staff committees as appropriate. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring the operations of programs and services, and initiating changes where required.
  • Ensures the presence of an on-going quality improvement programs and champions the continuous improvement process for all areas within scope and span of control.
  • Long-term financial and operational stability by implementing effective systems and providing management oversight. Participates with Network Leadership in developing Long Range Financial Plans (LRFP) and annual operating budgets and is accountable for outcome performance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required.
  • Master’s Degree required or a combination of education and professional experience that provides the caregiver with the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the job.


  • Minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible and successful leadership experience in a healthcare system required. CEO, COO, CAO, CFO experience preferred.
  • Significant operating success in a healthcare leadership role required.
  • Experience with proven positive outcomes regarding financial sustainability initiatives.
  • Successful experience building medical staff loyalty and support is required.


  • Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) is preferred.


  • Ability to deliver financial results for areas of responsibilities.
  • Person of highest integrity, consistently reported by others as trustworthy and trusting, able to serve as a role model.
  • Strong collaborative skills to foster relationships within Network Leadership Teams. 
  • Comfortable working in a Network of Care with matrix reporting relationships.
  • Excellent presentation, written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proven leadership ability, especially related to program design and implementation demonstrating financial acumen.
  • Proven ability to conceptualize issues and develop pragmatic solutions.
