PeaceHealth is seeking a Priest - Limited Duration for a limited duration position with a projected duration of 9 months. 

Expected Functions:

  • Presiding at Mass once a week for both RiverBend and University District locations
  • Working in collaboration with the staff chaplains at the respective locations for any priest visits requested by family members or patients directly.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required unless otherwise stated)

Education:         

  • Theological Education appropriate for ordination as a Catholic priest, Masters Level from an accredited university or seminary

Experience/Training:                    

  • Minimum of one year health care chaplaincy (or equivalent setting) experience preferred.
  • Acute care experience preferred.

License/Certifications: 

  • Must have priest faculties in the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon. Must provide letter confirming priest faculties from the office of the archbishop. 
  • If your current priest faculties are not in the archdiocese/diocese of this position, please note that you will need to obtain this as a condition of employment (and have documented evidence for this) if you are hired for this position.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Able to process oral and written information accurately and efficiently.
  • Skilled in oral communication and able to collaborate with peers and hospital caregivers.
  • Able to interact with the faith community leaders of diverse denominations and faith traditions.
  • Able to work effectively with a wide range of patients who have varying physical, emotional, cultural and religious/spiritual needs that bring meaning to their lives.
  • Crisis counseling skills required for addressing and processing trauma situations.
  • Computer literate and proficient in MS Office, Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support is preferred.
  • Commitment to continuing education.

Community/Location Specific Notes:

  • Must have completed the background checks and ongoing continuing education/trainings by the archdiocese in addition to the ones in PeaceHealth.
  • May be required to stand or walk frequently during a work shift.
