Metamaterial Devices and Applications

The Metamaterial Devices & Applications team at PARC is a small team, but which moves quickly. The team is currently developing exciting metamaterials-based technologies including electronically scanned array platforms for drones and self-driving cars; lightweight deployable antennas, scalable passive radiative cooling materials (self-cooling films); battery-free wireless platform for IoT; peripheral nerves/brain stimulation technologies; thermophotovoltaics devices, solar concentrators and other spectrally-selective devices; as well as a broad range of defense technologies.

Interns will have the opportunity to work with leading researchers on a broad range of technologies, and engage at different stages of the metamaterials projects pipeline.

Responsibilities:

Work with the team to build real-world devices.

Requirements:

Category 1:

Undergraduate/ Graduate student in Physics or Materials Science
Background in electromagnetic theory, optics, metamaterials/plasmonics and coding
Hands-on experience in design, fabrication and testing of engineered materials

Category 2:

Graduate student in Electrical Engineering
Background in electromagnetic theory, RF circuit design and devices, antennas, and wireless communication systems
Hands-on experience building wireless circuits, antennas and devices, including experience with RF measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, anechoic chambers, etc.
