Requisition Summary

Seeking energetic, independent engineer with interest in defining, developing, and testing an advanced demonstration vehicle that will help direct the course for PACCAR’s product plans for the next 10-15 years. The scope of work includes working with Cummins and major component and systems suppliers to develop vehicle electrical/electronic architecture which will integrate advanced fuel economy features including enhanced predictive cruise, enhanced waste heat recovery, energy storage, advanced fuel system, low heat rejection combustion system, low energy penalty emission controls, low pressure EGR loop, and reduced parasitic loads. Candidate will define and source components and direct electrical designers in release of specifications and drawings to support intermediate and final demonstrator vehicle builds.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with North American multiplex system leadership to coordinate and manage development, and assist with integration of advanced vehicle electrical/electronic architecture
  • Integrate enhanced predictive cruise, waste heat recovery, kinetic energy storage, advanced fuel system, low heat rejection combustion system, low energy penalty emission controls, low pressure EGR loop in a commercially viable electrical scheme
  • Specify, source integrate major electronic components to support intermediate and final demonstrator builds according to program schedule
  • Create and/or oversee development of prototype harnesses/schematics drawings to ensure current software developed and configured for performance requirements
  • Work closely with electrical design personnel with cross functional team members to assist with integration of new technologies.
  • Support new vehicle controls and features. Participation in all phases of projects from concept through service on all vehicle lines

Skills / Competencies

  • BSEE or related field required; PE license preferred; CDL preferred
  • 5+ years systems engineering experience with successful management of large multi-year projects
  • Commercial Drivers License desirable
  • Detailed understanding of current VECU architecture preferred
  • Must demonstrate an ability to perform in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment, manage multiple simultaneous projects, and respond dynamically to shifting priorities
  • Overall product knowledge is required, along with the ability to provide group leadership and management of human resource issues. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must
  • 2+ years of automotive electrical/electronic, and software design experience, preferably within PACCAR
  • PACCAR plant and service experience desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with software design and release; multiplexed communications, diagnostics, powertrain and/or other embedded systems leadership experience
  • Knowledge of Grade-X, LogiCAD and/or other visual programming environments, VEPS/VCP,UDS, ODX/OTX, and Design for Six Sigma all highly desired
  • Commercial vehicle background including J1939, service, vehicle controls and displays, lighting
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills


Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
