Requisition Summary

This position acts as a liaison between the Peterbilt Division Engineering Department and Peterbilt Customer Service and Field Service organizations, and various body builders. This engineer evaluates field complaints and gathers important information regarding vehicle reliability and service issues. Technical responsibilities include developing and documenting solutions to difficult service problems and alerting the engineering organization to potential design issues. This engineer increases customer satisfaction by providing technical support to help district service managers and dealers perform effective repairs and insure a steady flow of information from the field by responding to service requests in a timely manner. The position also assists Product Safety and Compliance in evaluation and resolution of customer issues, body builders with questions related to integration of bodies, and Paccar Parts with guidance on part substitutions and supersession.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Interact effectively and in a professional manner with all contacts including external and internal customers and suppliers
  • Effective and professional communication skills (verbal and written); a high level of interpersonal, instructional and customer diplomacy skills
  • Ability to set priorities and self-manage – effective time management
  • Ability to respond to concurrent service calls
  • Extensive use of logic and trouble shooting skills to analyze service issues without the benefit of personal observation
  • Extensive product knowledge spanning all vehicle models and functional areas including powertrain, cab, chassis, and particularly electrical systems
  • Fluently utilize available resources including ECAT, VOG, ServiceNet, OPS, Copics, Service Engineering SharePoint, etc. for research and communication tools
  • Familiarity with ESA and DAVIE service tools is a plus
  • Maintain a log of all service inquiries and resolutions
  • Communicate urgency or need of engineering participation in problem resolution to engineering group leads or managers as needed
  • Effectively guide other engineers to appropriate engineering solutions for field issues   
  • Occasional travel

Skills / Competencies

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience is required. A BSME or BSEE and experience with electrical systems and/or programming are strongly preferred.

 

Knowledge of and/or experience in heavy truck assembly, heavy truck components or heavy truck electronic and electrical systems is required.
