PACCAR Silicon Valley Innovation Center
The PACCAR Silicon Valley Innovation Center, located in Sunnyvale California, will coordinate next-generation product development and identify emerging technologies that will benefit future vehicle performance.  Technology areas of focus will include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), artificial intelligence, vehicle connectivity and augmented reality.


Requisition Summary

The PACCAR Silicon Valley Innovation Center is looking for a Commercial Vehicle Technician to support the operation activity of the office.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and Repair - Engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, differentials, clutches, drive shafts, PTO's, entire electrical system, HVAC, Steering; Electrical and Control Systems – ECU, ECM Controllers, ABS braking systems, integrated driver assistance features, instrumentation, infotainment, and vehicle telematics. 
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment.
  • Maintain immaculate work area.
  • Maintain a high awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules and guidelines. 
  • Road test Vehicles when necessary to: evaluate porotypes, diagnose malfunctions, and/or ensure vehicle/system functionality. 
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
  • Utilize fabrication equipment such as a drill press, lathe, vertical milling machine, press, brake to create custom parts used in rapid prototype vehicles.  
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Repair and troubleshoot major components such as engine, transmissions and differentials to include replacing complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills / Competencies

  • Accredited journeyman with a minimum of five years verifiable experience in the automotive/truck field is required. 
  • Licensed and able to operate medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles on public roads.
  • Ability to regularly multi-task and prioritize while working with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to provide high quality work under pressure of short timelines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 


  • Minimum of 1-3 years truck-trailer repair experience.
  • Commercial Driver’s License required.
  • Safety conscious and knowledge of general shop safety.
  • Capable of completing job functions and without repeat repairs.
  • Basic Knowledge of DOT and CVSA rules and requirements.
  • Available for full-time and able to work rotating shifts.


  • High School diploma/GED equivalent required.
  • Commercial Vehicle Driver’s License. 
  • Two year technical, vocational or trade school diploma or degree in automotive, truck, and/or heavy equipment service repair and maintenance preferred.
