Job Title: Mechanical Applications Engineer

The Mechanical Applications Engineer is a critical technical resource between the engineering design group, the sales group, and the customer.  The Applications Engineer is responsible for adapting existing product offerings, and or creating new offerings to satisfy varying industry applications.  The Applications Engineer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions with given technical specifications to ensure successful product launch and customer satisfaction through all stages of the development and sales processes.  This role offers professional development and access to global opportunities in a challenging, high performance environment where the candidate will be able to achieve a rewarding career that reflects the individual’s talents and aspirations. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain expert level of product knowledge and application
  • Articulate product offerings and key features to business and technical users
  • Lead the design and development of new adaptations of existing product offerings
  • Assist the design and development of new product offerings
  • Utilize 3D Modeling Software (Creo) to create and analyze designs
  • Create detailed drawings and BOMs of new parts and assemblies as required
  • Coordinate and complete projects and design efforts with other groups and departments within the company
  • Direct and conduct necessary research incidental to designs
  • Hands-on installation and testing of prototypes, typically at customer location

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and present project metrics: cost, performance, milestone/timeline as directed
  • Travel to customer sites to perform initial installation and analysis as required
  • Document installation process and requirements for use during future sales and installations
  • Utilize and maintain Six Sigma, DFSS, and Lean tools throughout the design and validation process

Qualifications Required

  • BSME or other applicable 4-year Engineering or Technology Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in Engineering, Design, Service, or Applications
  • Proficient in 3D modeling software (Creo preferred)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Strong communication and personable skills
  • Experience with hydraulics (specifically mobile hydraulics) and mechanical systems
  • Ability to read hydraulic schematics and assembly prints
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform hands-on work during prototype installations
  • Capable of working independently on projects with only limited input from others
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

Qualifications Preferred

  • Working knowledge or mechanic experience with mobile crane, forestry or heavy construction equipment
  • Fluid power and hydraulic circuit knowledge
  • Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic systems and performance issues
  • Proficiency with data acquisition systems such as LabVIEW, HYDAQ, or SOMAT
  • Fabrication, casting, and gear design experience
  • Proficiency with Creo and Windchill CAD systems
