Requisition Summary

The Standards Engineer is responsible for overseeing all activities pertaining to maintaining and distributing PACCAR and Peterbilt standards.  The position reviews standards prepared with departmental specialists to assure consistency with existing standards and those in other specialized disciplines.  The Standards Engineer manages standards review cycles and ensures documentation is up to date. 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Manages standards review cycles and ensures all documentation is up to date.
  • Administers Standards Engineering systems to ensure documentation is accessible.
  • Reviews standards prepared with departmental specialists to assure consistency with existing standards and those in other specialized disciplines.
  • Examines all factors involved to confirm that standards will result in most efficient use of time and resources that is consistent with safety and durability of the final product.
  • Evaluates data in scientific journals, suppliers' catalogs, government standards documents, and other sources of information on materials, processes, and parts to update knowledge of available resources.
  • Communicates with users to confirm knowledge of standards and cooperation of various project groups.
  • Follows established procedures for retention of data developed to assure optimum storage and retrieval by manual or automated methods.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and productive work relations with all other departments.
  • Schedule group and individual activities to resolve overdue standards reviews.
  • Actively look for new ideas, trends, and technologies that will allow PACCAR and Peterbilt to enhance storage, dissemination, application of standards.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of familiarity with PACCAR and Peterbilt standards.


  • Two years or more years preferred of truck/automotive related work experience
  • Self-directed
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively
  • Self-directed, excellent documentation skillsets and engineering judgment required
  • Well organized and disciplined with ability to manage workload and a willingness and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands


Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
