Requisition Summary

The Powertrain Validation Program Supervisor will  lead a group of validation engineers focused on the planning, execution, and management of all Systems Acceptance and Property Validation testing in support of vehicle controller programs. This supervisory position is responsible for managing the group workload, work processes, test processes and plans, metrics reporting and ensuring traceability of defects and requirements. The supervisor will promote a positive, collaborative team environment and manage group resources to achieve assigned department objectives.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 
 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and day to day team direction of the vehicle controller validation team.
  • Assign team members test requirements and ensure the development and completion of associated test plans
  • Perform project management tasks for the team, planning, and coordinating team activities
  • Create, coordinate, manage, and execute required program budgets
  • Develop, track and report program related metrics
  • Lead optimization and continuous improvement  
  • Identify program validation defects and support the review process to ensure program awareness
  • Define, fund, purchase, and maintain engineering development tools required for the team
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and productive work relations with all other departments
  • Work with assigned staff to establish and meet goals as a first level supervisor of an engineering team
  • Foster a team environment – coaches personnel to work together to resolve issues, share knowledge and abilities, and learn independent decision-making
  • Schedule group activities and resolves resource conflicts and programmatic validation issues
  • Lead optimization and continuous improvement  
  • Actively look for new ideas, trends, and technologies that will allow PACCAR to enhance the product and/or reduce costs
  • Work with staff to establish annual goals. Reviews personnel performance for progress and improvement. Counsels and develops personnel to exceed expectations
  • Prepare and conduct annual performance reviews for each direct report
  • Ensure staff receives appropriate training for safety and equipment operation
  • Serve as the lead Program Validation Engineer subject matter expert with a strong focus on software integration providing insight, development, and tracking of all related validation procedures and status
  • Conduct actual hands-on in truck vehicle validation testing
  • Analyze project requests, discusses project requirements with requestors and formulates preliminary project plans, budgets, and schedules
  • Design fixtures and specifies instrumentation, equipment, vehicles, loading configurations, software versions, and data processing techniques
  • Participate in set up of tests, data collection and analysis
  • Write reports, as appropriate, incorporating results, conclusions, and recommendations
  • Develop and maintain a high level of familiarity with PACCAR products and service tools
  • Present results of test or investigative projects to divisions or management personnel
  • Off-site testing requires up to 10% travel

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to lead in a team environment
  • Minimum two years with five or more years preferred of truck/automotive related work experience with diesel engines and Class 5-8 vehicles
  • Knowledge of engine and power train management systems and performance
  • Knowledge of in-vehicle engine calibration, OBD, and engine control systems
  • Ability to work well independently, as a team supervisor, and as a technical lead
  • Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively
  • Self-directed, excellent analysis and engineering judgment required
  • Well organized and disciplined with ability to manage personal workload and a willingness and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands
  • Experience with vehicle software highly desired

  • Self-directed, excellent analysis and technical judgment required

Education

BS degree in appropriate engineering discipline, MS preferred
