Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Radiology Assistant performs multiple duties in support of patient service within the Orthopedic department, which serves patients, physicians and support staff. Other responsibilities will include assisting patients, reception, gathering patient demographic and medical information, data entry and other tasks as required.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent walking, sitting and standing required for extended periods of time. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds. Assists in the moving and positioning of patients on radiology equipment. Requires visual acuity and normal color perception. Requires ability to type 40 wpm. Required to use the telephone and to work under pressure. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and fluids common to a clinic environment.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal environment providing radiology services. Occasional evening work.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

* Assists technologists in performance of technical duties including room turnover between patients and dressing and screening patients prior to exam.
* Transportation of patients from exam room to X-ray. Assist in use of Hoyer lift to transfer patient to X-ray table.
* Scheduling patients in computer system and finishing documentation for exam completion.
* Respond to inquiries as appropriate.
* Review patient chart prior to appointment for specific information and vital patient data, pertinent to the requested procedures.
* Communicates with referring physicians, their offices personnel, patients and patient's family to ascertain vital clinical information required for imaging studies.
* Monitors and facilitates Work-In or Same-Day referrals/ appointments as they come in during shift. Uses this information to consult with on-call Provider and facilitates appropriate scheduling, x-ray, and follow-up with for these items.
* Interview patient prior to examination to obtain pertinent history for imaging documentation.
* Assist the patient in preparation for the procedure including dressing and undressing as needed.
* Prepare and provide clinical information required by the technologists and physicians to include the patient medical record, previous radiographs, forms, history, etc.
* Assist with patient positioning as needed.
* Coordinates order needs for department via email. Assists with ordering needs for building. Responsible for supply delivery to requesting Staff and exam rooms.
* Performs clerical duties as assigned by Clinic Manager.
* Maintains strictest confidentiality.
* Ongoing Customer Service Training.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Skill in operating a computer. Skill in serving patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Strong customer service orientation. Ability to work accurately and demonstrate good judgment. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

EDUCATION: Equivalent of a high school diploma.

EXPERIENCE: 1 year of experience in radiology or medical setting. Phlebotomy experience preferred.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: CPR Certification required.
