Campus Bookstore Manager - Retail Ohio Wesleyan University No Evenings or Weekends! 


  • Develop, implement and monitor a merchandising and operations plan with an accompanying budget for store operations that includes sales goals and margins by category.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and coordination of marketing and sales promotion activities including in store merchandising display and advertising, a web sales presence and pop up store happenings to include athletic venues, student move in, alumni events and community events, etc..
  • Monitor sales performance including margin by category with comparison toward meeting agreed upon goals and budgeted targets. Report on progress toward goals to campus administration.
  • Works closely with Communications to ensure that all logo and spirit items remain with University branding and that sports related logo and spirit items support Athletics, NCAC and NCAA requirements and mission.
  • Oversee all store operations including opening and closing, and cash reconciliation and deposits.
  • Maintain accurate inventory through analyses of sales history and proper receiving processes. Plan and implement timely and cost effective purchases of all store merchandise.
  • Ensure proper use of POS system.
  • Ensure excellent customer service through the development of an Ohio Wesleyan Store mission and the development/revision of customer centric store policies and procedures.
  • Resolve customer complaints and issues.
  • Develop and continually enhance relationships with faculty, staff, students and other constituents.
  • Oversee the supervision of all full-time, part-time and student staff.
  • Develop job descriptions; hire, select, train and evaluate store employees.
  • Determine work schedules and assignments for staff to ensure efficient store operations.
  • Ensure employee compliance with established practices and procedures.
  • Assess staff training needs and recommends training accordingly.


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and retail management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of purchasing, merchandising, budgeting, inventory control and POS systems.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, parents, alumni, staff and university administration.
  • Previous supervisory/management experience in a retail environment.
  • Basic mathematical skills with the ability to compute cost and sales margins, and reconcile cash and sales receipts.
  • Excellent organization skills along with the ability to prioritize.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Ability to work over 40 hours per week and various hour including weekends as needed
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 50 lbs; bend, twist, climb ladders, stairs, step stools as necessary using feet, legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Personal computer proficiency and software experience including POS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
