~ Try a life-changing experience before your next job ~

Residential volunteers needed for inspiring work at well-established Buddhist retreat in Northern California.

Odiyan, a Buddhist center with Tibetan roots, has been hosting residential work-study volunteers for 6 month time commitments for more than 40 years.

Volunteers participate in hands-on projects, facility and garden maintenance and community life.  No religious affiliation is necessary, though an interest in service, community living, cultivating beauty and personal growth is essential.

Currently, residential volunteers are needed for:

  • sculpture and foundry work
  • prayer wheels for world peace project
  • landscaping and gardening.

No previous experience is necessary, but you must be hardy, able-bodied and not afraid to get dirty.

Room, board, a small stipend and classes in self-development are offered.

About Odiyan Buddhist Retreat

Odiyan sits atop a coastal mountain range on 1,000 acres of wild and cultivated land.  It is built in the shape of a Buddhist mandala with a central temple and three other large temples surrounding.

Full-time residents and shorter term volunteers comprise the community.  We are a work-focused center and have accomplished many projects over the past 40 years to preserve Tibetan Buddhist texts and sacred art.
