Job Description

The Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) is seeking to fill a position for a full-time, entry-level Electrical Engineer.

We are looking for someone who loves to design. Someone who can think on their feet and take projects from start to finish. Projects vary from hand held devices to room-sized factory automation. If you are a creative individual who is excited to invent novel solutions to enable and accelerate drug discovery processes that can lead to new disease cures and treatments, then this position is for you.

The engineering environment at GNF is second to none. It provides an environment where creativity and imagination turns into reality in a short period of time. We design, build, test, operate and support devices which are on the forefront of laboratory automation and which help our scientific staff take leaps forward in research and drug exploration. The Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF), located in the Torrey Pines area of San Diego, CA, is a part of the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). We are dedicated to the development and application of new methods and techniques for genome-wide biological discovery and biomedical research. Minimum requirements Position Requirements: B.S. or M.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering plus the following skills and/or experience:

* Position to be filled by 12/15/2017
* entry-level (0-2 years' experience)
* strong aptitude for electrical design, both analog and digital
* strong aptitude for complex system design, development and analysis
* VHDL and FPGA design and implementation
* team player as all projects are team based
* ability to handle multiple projects in parallel

The following skills are helpful:

* motion control, including servo and stepper technologies
* microcontroller implementation (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.)
* PCB schematic capture (Altium preferred)
* C++ and/or C# programming language
