Job Description

Avionics and Tactical Networks (ATN) is an operating unit within the Communications division of Northrop Grumman Information Systems and seeks an entry level Software Test Engineer. ATN is located at the Rancho Carmel facility in San Diego, California.

Our expertise is in delivering complex equipment to enable modern battlefields and support aviation missions. Our focus is on the world of avionics, radio and electronic warfare product applications to enable networked communications. As part of the corporation's business focus area on Communications, we are the "equipment providers." Our team of communication systems experts is developing next-generation ground radios for land forces, and our Electronic Warfare subject matter experts are creating the next generation of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) countermeasures to keep our soldiers safe when in harm's way.

The Database/Test Engineer who will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of technologies, whether home-grown or vendor packaged, that will satisfy business goals. This position requires technical acumen and collaboration skills. We are looking for individuals who are highly logical and creative in their approach to database development, who have experience making technical decisions, and who have ability to "think outside the box". While experience with the specific technologies we use (SQL, PERL, JavaScript and XML) is important, we are equally interested in general application architecture and design competency.


- Implement excellent solutions that address our business needs
- Conduction of Business needs analysis and propose the best accurate solution
- Analyze specifications and translate requirements to task specifications
- Review and repair legacy code
- Responsible for analysis of current programs including performance, diagnosis and troubleshooting of problem programs
- Responsible for development of new solutions
- Responsible for development of database for electronics manufacturing environment
- Overseeing the design and quality delivery of solutions
- Incorporate best practice platform development standards in adherence to Ipsos Tech's architecture and standards
- On-going communication and escalation of status and issues
- Develop new solutions and support existing solutions using HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, and/or Bootstrap


Basic Qualifications:

- BSEE, BSCS, or STEM related degree with 2 years experience.
- Experience in code level design - functional decomposition and use case realization, design patterns, UML class diagrams and sequence diagrams, in SQL concepts and practice.
- Strong Computer Science fundamentals; able to optimize, and come up with novel solutions. Well versed in current technologies.
- HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, Excellent SQL skills, with the ability to generate complex SQL queries from an entity-relationship diagram.
- Excellent query tuning skills.
- Experience designing schemas for OLTP databases.
- The ability to assist with troubleshooting critical performance problems in a production database system during a crisis.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Professional experience in database development and integration of vendor products into an enterprise setting with proven experience in development on large initiatives and object oriented development.
- Ability to handle client relationship management. Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Multi-task and react positively to frequent changes in priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to conceive, design, and develop innovative technologies. Open minded with problem solving skills.
- Ability to describe solutions using industry standard tools such as UML diagrams.
- Experience working in a heterogeneous technology environment, mixing custom software with commodity technology capabilities.
