JOB SUMMARY: Schedules referral appointments to meet provider and patient expectations.  Completes required pre-certifications and pre-authorizations accurately and timely.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 

1. Education High school graduate or GED equivalent.
2. Licensure:  
3. Experience: Minimum two years experience in a physician office, preferably family practice or internal medicine.
4. Certifications:  
5. Special Skills: Excellent working knowledge of medical terminology andknowledge of various insurance company requirements for pre-certification and referrals. CPT and diagnosis coding experience is a plus.
6. Other: Basic office skills.  
 
JOB SPECIFIC STANDARDS: All responsibilities and standards shall be performed according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines for Meritas.                   

1.

Schedules all outpatient referrals and/or completes pre-certifications or pre-authorizations accurately and timely.  Documents the preauthorization number in the medical record. 

2.

Maintains a thorough working knowledge of various insurance company referral and precertification requirements.   

3.

Correctly and appropriately relays test preparation instructions, hospital registration requirements, and physician specialist instructions to patients in timely manner.

4.

Completes the referral and/or preauthorization process by ensuring the specialist’s report or test results are received.  Notifies the referring physician when a patient does not keep a referral appointment or a pre-authorization is denied. 

5.

Demonstrates professionalism by articulating and demonstrating professional behavior, accepting responsibility and accountability for actions, adhering to policies and procedures, demonstrating leadership and supporting Meritas initiatives.
