Job Description

SUMMARY: Uses strong critical thinking skills and knowledge of disease processes to analyze clinical information within the electronic health record. Identifies potential gaps in physician documentation and opportunities to formulate clarifications to the provider. Interacts with physicians and HIM staff to ensure optimal documentation that reflects the patient's clinical status and care. Educates physicians and Advanced Practice professionals on best practice clinical documentation.

EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years clinical experience (ICU/Critical Care; strong Med/Surg Specialty) required. Clinical Documentation; Utilization Review; or Acute Care Hospital Quality experience preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and electronic health records required. Knowledge of reimbursement systems, CMS rules and regulations preferred.

OTHER: Excellent critical thinking, organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.

LICENSE/CERT: Required: RN (Registered Nurse) State of Missouri, BLS

EDUCATION: Required: Bachelors - Nursing, Preferred: Masters - Business, Masters - Health Administration, Masters - Nursing
