Job Description:

This internship will explore new technologies for efficient transport of high bandwidth, high quality video on wireless networks using machine learning (ML) techniques. The focus will be on evaluating neural networks-based ML algorithms for rapid video analysis and using the analysis to optimize video transmission. The intern candidate will leverage open source implementations of known video analysis algorithms and GPU-based platforms to demonstrate performance of new video transport schemes in an end-to-end wireless network.

Tasks

The scope of internship tasks will include but is not limited to following:

* Develop in-depth understanding of (a) the video analysis and transport problem and (b) current ML based video processing algorithms.
* Propose new solutions using these algorithms for rapid real-time decisions on effective video transport.
* Implement proposed solutions using live camera, GPU-based processing platform and an end-to-end wireless network.

Candidate will work with mentors from Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (NDAC) and Bell Labs. Tasks include:

* to explore design of Machine Learning based techniques for optimized video transport
* to explore implementation of Machine Learning techniques for optimized video processing in wireless networks.

Candidate will work with mentors from Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (NDAC) and Bell Labs and will be required to report his internship work in the form of oral and written presentation.

Required Qualifications:

Ideal intern candidate would be a M.S or Ph.D. student in Computer Science or Engineering program with strong academic credentials and should have strong skills in software development using Java and Python. Course work and/or experience in ML algorithms for video processing, implementation of ML algorithms on GPU-based systems (such as Nvidia Jetson TX2), frameworks/tools such as OpenGL, Jetson SDK will be a plus.

Start date: Though start date is flexible, preferred start date for this 10-week internship is on or after June 3, 2019.
