Job Description

MAJOR FUNCTION

Under supervision of a mentor, the Electrical Engineering Intern will gain experience applying principles and techniques of electrical engineering to research, develop and design electrical control systems for floor maintenance equipment. General tasks may include embedded control system design and development, printed circuit board (PCB) design and wire harness design. Other tasks may include specifying and performing tests for electrical components and assemblies for the purpose of evaluating performance and reliability. In addition, troubleshooting support for prototypes and manufacturing may occasionally be needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Assist with defining electro-mechanical device specifications and making decisions on component selection
* Assist in the development of detailed test requirements and test plans for the control systems to carry out functional, operational, and reliability testing
* Assist with failure analysis of control system components/assemblies.
* Assist with Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing and approvals
* Assist with the creation of documentation and/or reports for development projects to support other departments such as marketing, service, technical publications, and manufacturing
* Write technical reports and develop charts, graphs, flowcharts, and schematics to describe and illustrate and electrical system's operating characteristics, malfunctions and deviations from design specifications
* Control system development will typically be a mixture of in-house activities in conjunction with internal and external engineering resources. Specific design duties may include (but are not limited to):
* Electronic and/or electromechanical component specification and selection
* Control circuit design and schematic capture
* PCB design and layout
* Control system assembly design and layout
* Microcontroller programming in C and/or Assembly language
* Programming documentation using flowcharts
* Wiring harness and/or cabling specification and design

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in pursuit of Electrical Engineering Degree

EXPERIENCE:

General, entry-level work





KNOWLEDGE & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

* Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
* Working knowledge of electrical and electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, data loggers, etc.
* Strong organizational skills with an ability to establish priorities and carry out objectives with general supervision
* Strong technical writing skills
* Strong oral communication skills
* Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team environment

COMPUTER SKILLS:


* Proficiency in use of MS Word, Excel
* Capability to learn new software such as Altium Designer and OrCAD Schematic Capture
