Job Description

Purpose

 

Do you have a passion for the environment and working outdoors?  Newmont Mining is seeking a qualified individual to monitor and sample air, soil, water, process solutions and other media in accordance with prescribed procedures at our Cripple Creek and Victor mine site in Colorado.  The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining functional knowledge of permits and permit specific requirements and database management in order to assist with data compilation for State and Federal Reports.

Essential Duties

 

  • Ship collected samples to offsite analytical laboratories for quantitative and qualitative analysis, relieve analytical results and transfer to appropriate database.
  • Possess a working knowledge of environmental requirements.
  • Promote environmental leadership and permit compliance within the work force.
  • Determine field parameters including flow rate, temperature, pH, conductivity, redox and dissolved oxygen using appropriate filed instruments.
  • Maintain and calibrate filed instruments using known chemical standards.
  • Collect soil, air and water samples in conformance with standard operating procedures and permit requirements.
  • Perform light maintenance on sampling pumps and generators.
  • Read and comprehend Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS or SDS), environmental procedures, permits, literature, product labels and warning signs.
  • Conduct visible emission readings.
  • Attend semiannual visible emissions training sessions.
  • Assist the Environmental Compliance Manager in completion of annual storm-water reports.
  • Assist the Environmental Compliance Manager in tracking the status of environmental non-process monitoring requirements.
  • Compile and present monitoring/inspection data as needed

 

The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Training & Experience

 

  • Two (2) years experience in hydrology and/or environmental, preferably in a mining environment is beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of proper sampling techniques and procedures. Comprehension and operation of environmental instruments and equipment is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated understanding of environmental functions and basic mining functions.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft office suite.
