Job Description

New America - an innovative nonprofit policy institute in the heart of Washington, D.C. - is seeking a candidate with an exceptional eye for detail for the position of Media Relations Assistant.

The Media Relations Assistant will be responsible for tracking, measuring, and communicating the impact of New America's research and communications products and media coverage, as well as supporting the communications and events team with publicity and outreach for new publications and events.

Key Responsibilities (and estimated percent of job)


* Record media coverage, speeches, citations, and other activities like events and report launches, in Salesforce to capture communications and policy impact (25%)
* Assist our communications and events team with preparing communications plans and pitching reporters (25%)
* Field media requests for New America's staff and fellows (10%)
* Other projects as assigned (10%)


* Create and manage media outreach lists ahead of New America events and policy report launches (10%)
* Compile and send weekly internal newsletter highlighting New America's media mentions (5%)
* Provide proofreading and editorial support to New America's publications (5%)
* Conduct Salesforce trainings for communications and program interns, and oversee quality of their media tracking (5%)
* Light administrative duties (10%)


* Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, political science, or related fields; or equivalent experience
* 1 year of professional or internship experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field
* Basic data management or entry experience (i.e., Salesforce, Excel, Access, other CRM), Salesforce preferred
* Critical thinking and problem solving skills
* Exceptional attention to detail, proofreading skills, organization skills, time management, motivation, and a desire to learn on the job
* Ability to prioritize competing obligations and consistently meet deadlines
* Eager to learn and adopt data management best practices, open and flexible attitude
* Interest in policy research and public relations is beneficial
