Job Description

Examples of Duties

Significant Duties

  • Troubleshoots electrical, electronic (analog and digital), pneumatic and mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Performs operator and preventive maintenance on equipment and systems including electrical, electronic, pneumatic, mechanical, as specified by manufacturers; varies PM interval as directed by monitored failure rate.
  • Performs simple, as well as complete repairs of equipment and systems as appropriate.
  • Researches, interprets and applies local, as well as manufacturers' technical data; reads and interprets engineering drawings and specifications; coordinates with local utility services for utility services needs.
  • Maintains appropriate work records for compliance with requirements imposed by: CCR T-22, CCR T-24, TJC, OSHPD and NFPA.
  • Develops and maintains excellent customer service traits.
  • Accesses, interprets, and acts upon the NMC Building Systems Management System for heating, cooling, and conditioning all hospital spaces; acts similarly for the energy management system.
  • Provides training to staff in the use of facilities and utilities systems.

Examples of Experience/Education/Training

Minimum Qualifications
Licenses/Certificates: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License is required.

The Ideal Candidate 
Will have proven track record that demonstrates his/her knowledge of: 
The principles and practices of operating, maintaining, repairing and installing hospital equipment and systems; workplace, equipment and tool safety; operation, maintenance and repair of various pumps, motors, centrifugal chillers, boilers, compressors, blowers, control valves and switches, and instruments related to HVAC, and to digital and pneumatic control systems; operation, maintenance and minor repair of large generators automatic transfer switch, transformers, meters and electrical power distribution centers.

The Ideal Candidate 
Will have the skills and ability to:

Use applicable instruments, tools and equipment in operating, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing hospital building and utility equipment and systems; access, interpret and act upon building energy management systems and input data and information; read and interpret complex engineering drawings; make engineering calculations regarding temperatures, pressures, pH readings, valve clearances; understand public utility delivery systems for water, natural gas, electricity, sewerage, LV cable systems; operate major mechanical and electrical equipment for the production and distribution of utilities; follow written and oral instructions; keep detailed maintenance records; analyze and describe specific maintenance problems and recommend or perform viable solutions; establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
