The individual in this role will be responsible for oversight of accounting and related analysis for commercial and residential portfolios; including general accounting policies in accordance with GAAP, establishment / review of controls, and facilitation of budget and audit compliance.

This role will manage a team of 6 direct reports and their deliverables.

Ideal candidates should possess the following:

* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
* Real Estate Industry experience including exposure and knowledge of operating expense recoveries for commercial portfolios
* Real Estate Software experience (MRI)
* Strong Excel skills
* Management experience
* 8 years of Accounting experience

Summary: Manages and coordinates the accumulating, recording, preparation and reporting of financial data required for regulatory and management purposes. Provides analysis and interpretation of accounting records and financial statements. Develops and proposes change in accounting policy, procedures and systems support, and determines accounting practices for assigned product/functional area of responsibility.

Job Description

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Accounting Director. Typically manages six or more Accounting Supervisors and Accountants directly and ten or more associates indirectly.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manages the accurate accumulation, preparation and maintenance of financial accounting records for both internal and external reporting.

2. Manages the development of financial statements according to prescribed schedules.

3. Prepares, reviews and recommends improvements in accounting, and financial reporting systems.

4. Manages and/or participates in special projects/assignments as directed by senior management.

5. Reviews and analyzes financial statements and supplemental data for external and management reporting purposes.

6. Works closely with internal auditors, public accountants, federal tax examiners and others as required in performing assigned accounting functions.

7. Manages the preparation of special reports, analyses and financials as requested by management.

8. Represents the department director as assigned for both development and work flow assistance.

9. Responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation relevant to MRI, FAS and Microsoft Office products.

10. Serves as an expert in MRI; designs, develops and implements cost-effective information technology solutions by modifying existing software applications that are complex in nature.

11. Determines user requirements, plans projects, establishes priorities and monitors progress.

12. Provides direction, training and guidance on information technology solutions for less experienced staff.

13. Acts as a liaison with Nationwide-s information technologies support group.

14. Responsible for the management of associates including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.

15. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in accounting and /or finance. Prefer accounting degree.

License/Certification/Designation: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) studies preferred.

Experience: Eight years accounting experience with an insurance company or financial institution, including management/supervision experience. Experience in programming and systems analysis relevant to MRI required. Experience in project management preferred.

Knowledge: GAAP and/or STAT accounting principles, practices and procedures, and insurance/financial products regulatory requirements. Product specific knowledge also required, such as investments, tax, property/casualty, life and/or subsidiary accounting and financial analysis.

Skills/Competencies: Verbal and written communication skills for contact with all levels of associates including business unit leadership, external parties such as public accountants, state examiners, industry professionals, and other clients. Ability to analyze and solve accounting problems, interpret financial statements and data, analyze legal requirements, examine and monitor accounting cycles and flows, and review general ledger entries and audit work papers and schedules. Ability to manage and train associates in all aspects of assigned accounting record maintenance, and financial statement preparation.
