Job Description

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Center for Transportation Technology and Hydrogen Systems in Golden CO has an opening for a student internship on the development of CoolCalc/VTCab software - a rapid HVAC estimation tool written in Python. The position is part-time (15-20 hours per week) during the school year and full time (40 hours per week) during the summer.

The student intern will contribute to the development of CoolCalc software - a rapid HVAC estimation tool written in Python. The student will assist with developing the graphic user interface and the supporting code. The student will be responsible for documenting work and reporting results. The student will work in a team with another programmer and engineers.

Experience with computer modeling and programming is required. This includes expertise in object-oriented languages. Strong communication skills including interpersonal, presentations, and writing required. Ability to work both independently and with a team needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Python and Ruby is also helpful. Demonstrated academic skills including learning new programming techniques and languages.


Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Internship period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Please Note: You will need to upload unofficial transcripts and a letter of recommendation as part of the application process.
