Job Description

Job Summary:

The Forecasting and Modeling Group has a full-time (40 hours per week) summer internship opening for a Graduate Student Intern to assist with electricity system planning modeling and analysis. The successful candidate would join a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative team of researchers analyzing high renewable futures in multiple regions in the United States.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work with staff on the Resource Planning Model (RPM) modeling team to conduct analysis relevant to future power systems. Tasks may include:

  • Create or updating model input data to reflect stakeholder feedback
  • Develop tests that ensure that the model is working properly and producing reasonable results
  • Develop output data visualizations


Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Internship period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Please Note: Before interview selection, you will need to provide unofficial transcripts to verify GPA and full time enrollment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated strong computer programming skills including languages relevant to model development, optimization, and data analysis (Preferred languages: Python, GAMS, SQL, R, Julia)
  • Power systems knowledge and modeling experience
  • Optimization modeling experience
