Job Description

The Strategic Energy Analysis Center (SEAC) is seeking an intern for Summer, 2018 to assist in the validation of WRF derived wind resource data. NREL broadly is a leader in the creation and use of modeled resource data for siting and valuing wind technology. SEAC has been working closely with the wind modeling team over several years in managing and analyzing these large data sets. For this internship, the intern will compare wind resource data for Mexico with available ground measurement data. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with wind measurement techniques and methodology. Hands on experience with anemometers and NRDG data loggers is a plus. Must have data analysis, statistical analysis, and programming experience as well as familiarity with Python. Big data skills and familiarity with high density file formats (HDF) a plus.


Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Internship period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Please Note: Before interview selection, you will need to provide unofficial transcripts to verify GPA and full time enrollment.


Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with wind measurement techniques (i.e., technology, terminology, etc.)
  • Experience with anemometers and NRG data loggers a plus
  • Data analysis and coding experience along with familiarity with Python required
  • Big data skills including familiarity with High density file formats a plus
  • Experience with statistical analysis and techniques preferred
