Job Description

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the world’s leading research and development laboratory for renewable energy technologies, is seeking to hire a graduate student intern in applied mathematics related to engineering, optics and statistics. The candidate will work with other engineers and scientists in the Thermal Sciences R&D Group, within the Buildings & Thermal Sciences Center, to support ongoing research related to optical characterization of solar thermal collector. Potential candidates should be currently registered within a graduate program in engineering, applied science or related discipline. Applicants will need to commit to work at NREL’s main campus in Golden, Colorado.

The qualifications include:

The center seeks talented, innovative and self-motivated graduate student intern candidates in the areas of mechanical engineering, optical engineering and applied mathematics. The candidate must have experience in applied dynamics, image processing, optical engineering in lens and photogrammetry. The candidate must have demonstrated programming skills using Matlab. Work experience with in-depth knowledge in applied mathematics, ray-tracing simulation and statistical analysis in realistic problems are desired.


Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Internship period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Please Note: Before interview selection, you will need to provide unofficial transcripts to verify GPA and full time enrollment.
