Job Description

An experimental postdoc position is available in the Materials Science Center, in the area of oxide materials growth using plasma assisted molecular beam epitaxy.

The position would involve physical vapor deposition, spatially-resolved characterization and big-data analysis of thin film of novel inorganic materials. The studied materials would be sulfides, oxides, nitrides, phosphides or Li-based compounds prepared using sputtering, pulsed laser deposition or molecular beam epitaxy. The position would support applied materials- and device development projects in the area of photovoltaic or photoelectrochemical solar cells, and other optoelectronic or electrochemical devices. The job duties would also include setting up new and maintaining existing experimental equipment, and improving/creating data collection- or analysis software. The initial appointment is for 1 year with possible extension of up to 3 years total providing mutual satisfaction and availability of funds

The position would involve synthesis and characterization of novel oxide materials for electronic applications using molecular beam epitaxy system with gas plasma sources. Particular emphasis will be placed on control of doping in epitaxial layers of wide band gap semiconductors. In addition to the primary materials growth and measurement effort, the position would support collaborative projects related to fabrication and characterization of electronic devices, such as diodes and transistors. The job duties would also include modifying and maintaining existing experimental equipment. The initial appointment is for 1 year, with possible extension of up to 3 years total providing mutual satisfaction and availability of funds


Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.


Preferred Qualifications

Solid experience with plasma assisted molecular beam epitaxy of oxides or nitride materials is preferred. Some experience with fabrication and testing of electronic devices is a plus.
