Job Description

Develop and perform analysis of sustainable transportation systems to inform strategic decisions facing State and Federal government agencies, industry representatives, and technology R&D portfolio managers. Focus on technology trends and policies related to plug-in electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and advanced biofuels. Implement novel analysis methods to address the influence of market transformation policies on consumers and the clean technology investment community. Assess the merits and impacts associated with a range of vehicle-fuel pathways within a broad sustainability context. Deliver quality analysis products that synthesize the inputs from ongoing R&D activities, industry stakeholders, sub-model results, team collaboration, and other sources. Translate analysis results into effective and influential communication products and tools tailored to client requests and audience requirements. Work within a collaborative team environment.

• Within a team environment, perform technical, market and policy analysis of advanced and alternative fuel and vehicle technology systems, infrastructure systems analysis, and policy assessments.

• Develop and maintain analysis modeling tools databases that will facilitate vehicle and fuel infrastructure systems research. Document methods and assumptions and prepare communication materials for publications and presentations.
• Under the general direction of senior staff, perform work independently and in cooperation with other team members. As appropriate, coordinate work with capabilities resident in laboratories, universities, or other organizations.
• Engage with team members to verify modeling methods, approach, input data and results.
• Implement analysis using methodologies such as mass and energy balances, optimization, database management, risk analysis, and others.
• Follow all ES&H policies and procedures to ensure and maintain a safe working environment.

Relevant PhD in a closely related field of expertise.

  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Systems analysis experience with hydrogen, electricity, and other alternative fuel technologies.
  • Significant experience with transportation systems analysis methods, or experience in a related energy analysis field or industry.
  • Familiarity with data base management and programming languages such as Java, Python or Excel VBA.


Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
