Job Description

The position is focused on research, development, modeling and evaluation of control algorithms and applications for Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMSs) and Microgrid Management and Control Systems (MMCSs). Specific responsibilities include modeling and simulation of next-generation power systems, distribution systems, microgrids, operated under emerging control and optimization methods. Research time will be split between (1) conducting simulation and laboratory testing of cutting-edge commercial applications with utility partners and (2) developing new, enhanced core capabilities for ADMS and MMCS.

Duties would include power distribution system and control system simulation of smart grids and microgrids. This may include real-time and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation and may require creation of models for distributed energy resources. The candidate will provide reports on technical work and input to technical publications and presentations and will follow all Environment, Safety, and Health policies and procedures to ensure and maintain a safe working environment.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.

Preferred Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

Candidate with Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have a background in optimization and control, extensive control algorithm development, testing and evaluation experience, plus hands-on laboratory experience in a power-engineering laboratory. Specifically candidates having working experience with enterprise level DMS software would be preferred.

Candidates should also have strong background in one or more of the following topics: control systems, power systems operation, and modeling and simulation including real-time and hardware-in-the-loop simulation. Candidates should demonstrate broad understanding and wide application of engineering principles, theories and concepts in the field of power systems.
