Job Description

Join the RF Semiconductor Test System (STS) R&D group of National Instruments and work on applying our wide range of hardware and software solutions to the high-volume RF-IC test market. We are looking for talented, self-starting, highly-motivated individuals who work well across geographic and technology groups. Currently we have an open position for a Systems Validation and Specifications Engineer with strong RF measurement skills who will work closely with our RF STS Driver Software and RF STS Hardware teams to help expand our system validation and specification generation capabilities, and drive the overall System-level spec generation and verification process. The job will entail validation of STS system-level RF measurements to ensure proper software control, hardware functionality, calibration methodologies, and system-level specifications. This includes:

* Working effectively with calibration experts across the company
* Reviewing driver algorithms and implementations
* Participating in the design reviews of software, hardware, and support for new products
* Provide guidance to other engineers to perform measurements
* Providing input to improve the SW driver automatic test process to prevent defects at the system level
* Making complex RF and analog measurements, collecting, organizing, analyzing and presenting of data
* Working with documentation groups to produce customer-facing specification and support documentation
* Recommending, assembling, debugging and operation of complex RF measurement systems
* Automating the collection of data as needed

Position Requirements

* 2-5 years relevant experience in a Hardware and Software Design Verification, and RF Test, or semiconductor design validation
* Proficiency making RF measurements such as harmonic distortion, IP3, EVM, Noise Figure and S-parameters, and understanding of these measurements
* Proficiency using standard RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power meters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators.
* Solid understanding of RF communication systems, RF measurements, statistics, and electronics fundamentals (e.g., ability to read and interpret schematics).
* Working knowledge of VNA architecture and theory including calibration techniques
* Ability to evaluate RF calibration and measurement options, and recommend the appropriate solution
* Ability to learn to create system-level STS test plans to facilitate testing the creation, debugging, calibration and execution of the overall system
* Experience with measurement metrology, uncertainty calculations, GUM, and setting test-line and customer specifications.
* Works well with remote colleagues in Santa Rosa and Belgium
* Travel to meet with colleagues: 2 weeks per quarter.
* Proficiency with in one of following languages: C/C++, Python, or LabVIEW
* Strong analytical and communication skills (verbal and written, including group presentations)
* Experience working independently and in a team environment.
