Job Description

Temporary Project Assistant: Central and West Africa - Anglophone Programs

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is seeking candidates to work with its Central and West Africa (CEWA) team. This is a temporary position based in NDI's Washington, DC office. The project assistant will be responsible for assisting with implementation of democratic development programs in Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and/or Nigeria.

Responsibilities:

* Collect and distribute foreign and domestic newspaper, magazine, and/or academic articles pertaining to Central and West African affairs
* Assist with travel logistics, including arrangements for airfare, hotel, visas, and meeting schedules for traveling NDI staff, consultants, and delegations
* Assist in providing administrative support including filing, faxing, copying, and mailing
* Assist in researching and drafting briefing materials and reports on the political situation and/or NDI program activities in the region
* Review documentation of NDI program expenditures
* Attend events and program meetings on Central and West Africa and provide minutes or written summaries to team members
* Assist in organizing document archives of NDI programs in the CEWA region
* Complete special projects as requested

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in African studies, international development, international relations, political science, or a related field; Additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement on a one-for-one basis
* Some knowledge of Central and West Africa and an interest in learning more
* High degree of organization, attention to detail, and skill at prioritizing and managing multiple tasks
* Strong research and writing skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and Google applications
* Oral and written proficiency in English
* Availability to work 40 hours/week
