Primary Objective:

To oversee the shipping and delivery of materials for the Cary, NC location. Manage the loading of trucks, setting up delivery routes and unloading of material. Also manage and maintain communications with carriers, suppliers, warehouses, custom brokers and others involved in the shipping and delivery of product. Align with and supports internal customer requirements. Maintain ERP system accuracy and integrity. Drive to the most efficient methods of shipping product both domestically and internationally.


Major Areas of Accountability:


  1. Schedule shipments and deliveries to ensure Total Customer Satisfaction.  Oversee the transportation of products from one location to another.  To do so, they will need to arrange product pickups and deliveries with transportation companies and route drivers accordingly. They will also need to conduct a cost analysis of several transportation companies in order to select one that is cost-efficient and able to handle the shipment loads.
  2. Build relationships with vendors.  They will need to communicate with trucking companies, warehouse supervisors, customs brokers, sales forces and customers. They must ensure that all parties are working together to guarantee that shipments are packed, sent and delivered in a timely manner. This responsibility includes contacting various transportation companies to get shipping quotes and deciding on the best carriers based on cost, availability and reliability.
  3. Manage the ERP system accuracy. Ensure all transactions are coordinated accurately. Assists with material transfers within the warehouse and from Shipping/Receiving to subcontractors.
  4. Implement standardize processes and best practices. Implements standardizes processes, ensures the utilization of best-practices and activities to drive accurate, cost-effective and efficient flow of materials throughout the Shipping process. Responsible for writing work instructions. 
  5. Acts as liaison for the team with MTS Customer Service regarding delivery status and customer requirements for shipping. Assists Quality and Purchasing with non-conforming material issues.
  6. Own Metrics. Develop, manage, publish and monitor appropriate metrics that accurately reflect performance. Identify and drive opportunities for improvement through metrics.
  7. SOX, ISO and Audit Process Owner. Represents the Shipping function as the “Information Owner” for defining appropriate access to the ERP system in compliance with separation of duty requirements. Ensures controls are properly reviewed and processes are followed in accordance with SOX, ISO and other Audit requirements.
  8. Safety. Ensures that employees are trained and practicing safety in all aspects of their daily activities. Takes preventative action to identify and eliminate potential safety hazards.
  9. Assist with Staffing, Budgets. Responsible for assisting with annual budget and spend related to assigned cost centers.
  10. Responsible for the on-going management and development of assigned employees. Establish employee goals and provide direct feedback on a regular basis. 
  11. Other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of applicable work experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment required.
  • Minimum 1-3 years supervisorial experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, organizational and customer service skills are all a must.
  • The ability to meet sometimes short deadlines and to be detail-oriented is also essential. They should be team players that can motivate and manage various individuals to work together to achieve the same goal.
  • Demonstrated communication and leadership skills and ability to interact professionally with all levels within the organization and external customers.
  • Forklift certification preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Baan preferred).  Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, and PowerPoint & Excel would be preferred.  Also, experience with UPS World Ease and FedEx Trade Networks would be desired.
