Primary Objective:

Plans, directs and coordinates manufacturing processes. Evaluates implements and improves manufacturing methods, equipment, tooling, and documentation. Provide technical teaching to the production group for improving the skill-set enabling them to diagnose problems and deliver quality products. Works with other departments to implement permanent solutions by measurement techniques such as value stream, yield, cause/effect, 5-why, and variable and attributive statistics.


Major Areas of Accountability:

  1. Responsible for the assessment of the overall manufacturability of new designs in terms of manufacturing efficiency and cost effectiveness. Represents the manufacturing function on product and project development teams. Helps drive operational readiness in support of new product launches.
  2. Performs analysis for new or improved equipment changes and additions for the production floor. This shall include quotation and ordering aspects with R&D, purchasing, and quality to meet budget and return-on-investment (ROI) constraints and engineering change orders (ECO). The projects shall include but not be limited by timing, capacity, cost, yield, and waste control.
  3. Responsible for controlling production routings within the ERP system. Creates initial manufacturing instructions in conjunction with R&D Engineering or Sustaining Engineering. Maintains and updates the manufacturing instructions on the production floor by partnering with supervision, quality, and sustaining engineering.
  4. Serves as technical expert/teacher to all levels within the operations group.  Creates training programs and provides training for all production staff to improve their technical skills; specifically targeting tool use and manufacturing techniques.  Enforce adherence to standard processes and procedures, including safety and ergonomic practices.
  5. Provides support to internal groups and external suppliers in resolving quality, productivity and routine technical issues related to new and existing products during all phases of the product life cycle.
  6. Applies lean methods and leads initiatives to reduce non-value add activity to drive productivity, enhance quality and maximize production resources. Works with Supervisors to analyze and plan work force utilization and workflow with layout designs for equipment and workspace to maximize efficiency. Analyzes production times, staffing requirements, and related investment costs for new products and process changes.
  7. Uses root cause analysis and troubleshooting expertise to advise Production Manager on resolving problems with failures during the manufacturing process and provide long term solutions. This may include using test fixtures, production fixtures and various tools to assist the production staff.
  8. Knows and applies the division’s quality policy and procedures of ISO 9001 as it relates to area of responsibility and the organization.  Follows all standard operating and safety procedures as prescribed and notifies appropriate personnel of any non-conformance. Participates as team member for supplier and other outside quality projects as required.



  • Degreed Engineer with 3 yrs. experience in methods & processes, tooling & capital planning within a production environment. Mechanical Engineer or Industrial Engineer Desired. Electrical Engineer Highly Desired.  

    Non-degreed with minimum of 11 yrs. relevant manufacturing engineering experience

  • Electrical repair and troubleshooting skills with some failure mode analysis highly desired

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with emphasis on developing strong employee relations
  • Strong computer and software skills
  • Ability to work with a high degree of personal discipline
  • Good presentation skills
  • Technical aptitude
  • Knowledge/sensitivity to operational goals and financial constraints
