Primary Objective:
Provides technical focus for large and complex product developments.  Rationalizes system requirements, generates functional allocations, directs system configuration trades and performance assessment to deliver best value with differentiation, sets clear and verifiable acceptance criterion, and manages technical issues from pre-sale through product acceptance.  Develops process and tools to improve technical definition of complex products. Works to capture and disseminate corporate learning for future products.

 

Major Areas of Accountability:

1. Provide technical direction for definition of complex systems and in the resolution of problems associated with the engineering and design of large or complex systems while considering the complete product lifecycle.

 

2. Drive continuous improvement in product definition by applying Systems Engineering processes and tools to maximize customer and MTS value. Coordinate activities to support design to cost, design for assembly, manufacture, and serviceability initiatives.

 

3. Provide regular reporting to Project Management on product technical risks and status. Monitors performance against specifications, conducts design reviews, and acts to minimize deviations.

 

4. Coordinate with Application Engineers and Project Engineers while acting as proposal technical lead to develop customer specifications, functional requirements, acceptance criterion, and concept solutions which provide best value while maintaining differentiation in the market.

 

5. Ensure best value and differentiation in product development while meeting technical performance.

 

  • Responsible for product requirements and functional definition to ensure concepts are rationally defined to clear criterion.
  • Establish acceptance criterion early in a pursuit to ensure clarity in expectations for the customer and the technical team.
  • Direct configuration trades, performance assessment, and iteration of internal and customer requirements to arrive at rational product configurations offering best value to market and MTS needs.
  • Maintain technical risk and opportunity assessment from initiation of pursuit to product acceptance to manage risk and minimize uncertainty.
  • Ensure required analyses are conducted and documented, including FMEA, Hazard, and MTBF as appropriate.
  • Follow systems into customer acceptance to resolve technical conflicts and to gather lessons learned for future development

 

6. Provide technical direction and customer interface as required to resolve customer service issues exceeding the capabilities of MTS service staff.

 

7. Create and deliver formal technical presentations to both external customers and internal management related to job function, program status, or future technical direction.

 

Qualifications:

<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;">BS degree in Engineering with 9+ years of progressively demanding product development experience.

<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;">Ability to direct complex technical development projects, build relationships, lead cross-functional teams, and build consensus among development team members.

Ability to perform the following functions:

  • Technical effort assessment

  • Design Development& Trade Studies

  • Acceptance test planning

Ability to travel up to 25% domestic and internationally.
