Primary Objective:
Create and maintain project and order schedules to maximize visibility, task coordination, timing and resource utilization for operations and engineering.

Promote schedule achievement through effective utilization of scheduling tools, negotiation, analysis, and problem resolution.

Major Areas of Accountability:
1. Create, enter and maintain project schedules and network structure in the scheduling system. Adjust and validate schedule details, activity sequences and milestones to achieve acceptable balance between resource demand and capacity and to achieve project schedule requirements.

2. Negotiate & optimize individual project schedules with project teams and management to maximize potential schedule success of the project portfolio while meeting individual project requirements.
•Engineering labor timing and distribution detail
•Mfg labor estimates
•Materials activities drive MRP system to optimize manufacturing processes.

3. Develop revised project schedules when changes in situation require. (portfolio prioritization/sequencing, project scope, labor/duration estimates, materials availability, space, project conflicts etc.).
•Evaluate impact of changes on the project schedule(s).
•Develop revised schedules that maximize performance to project, customer and business requirements while maintaining realistic labor and material demand schedules.
•Ensure revised schedules align with portfolio objectives and constraints

4. Ensure project schedule conflicts are resolved and priorities are determined within acceptable time limits. Initiate, coordinate and/or facilitate conflict resolution activities, when necessary. Escalate conflicts and issues promptly when conflicts cannot be resolved by project teams.

5. Ensures project schedule information in SAP is maintained and current, including but not limited to the following.
•Schedule dates
•Network structure
•Labor estimates

6. Coordinate a portfolio of projects when assigned. Adjust schedules within the portfolio to maximize success and minimize conflicts for resources.

7. Lead (and/or participate in) formal and informal preventative activities to promote schedule achievement. (Schedule reviews, capacity reviews)

8. Lead (and/or participate in) intervention activities when achievement of project schedule(s) is at risk to improve success in meeting customer, project and business requirements and objectives.

9. Actively work to improve scheduling, analysis, reporting and resolution processes. Initiate local improvement activities. Participate in and support management sponsored improvement teams and activities.

10. Promote effective use of scheduling and analysis tools and methods. Assist and train users and information recipients in the use of tools and information. Actively encourage appropriate and effective use of tools, processes and methods.

11. Maintain expert knowledge of scheduling tools, methods and associated systems. Maintain understanding of project and portfolio scheduling concepts, policy and best practices.

12. Utilize tools (SAP and other) to evaluate effects of volume increases and decreases on resources, practices and processes related to assigned portfolio of projects.

13. Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.


  • 2 year degree related to business, engineering, technology or related field
  • 9 years experience in project, production or operations planning  


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or related field
  • 5 years experience in project, production or operations


  • Equivalent combination of education and experience



  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Oral and written communications skills
  • Proactive and collaborative
  • Negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of project scheduling and/or production scheduling
  • Prefer experience with relevant commercial scheduling applications such as SAP- PS, Primavera, MicroSoft Project, etc.
