Job Description

Job Summary and Responsibilities/Duties

This pool has been established to accept applications for possible openings that may arise throughout the academic year for part-time faculty. Pools are posted based on the possible availability of future assignments, which are sporadic and may not occur. When a position is available, the dean (or designee) will review the qualified applicants from this pool. Should review of your qualifications result in a decision to interview, you will be contacted.

Job Summary

An instructor's primary responsibility is to provide high quality instruction so that each student may meet learning outcomes. An instructor is also responsible for working with the Dean, Practical Nurse Program Director and colleagues to improve student learning experiences, skills lab activities and clinical experiences. Instructors may be assigned other instructional responsibilities as determined by the dean. This is a non-traditional work schedule, you will be assigned to work Summer, Fall and Winter term.

Essential Duties:

* Provides instruction for theory, clinical and practical nursing skills lab courses as assigned.
* Supervises student clinical experiences in long term care, acute care and/or community health settings as assigned.
* Prepares clear learning outcomes for each course and informs students of learning outcomes in a course syllabus.
* Provides current and appropriate course content that is informative, well organized and supports student learning and success.
* Follows program procedures for skills lab check-offs and clinical remediation.
* Maintains and posts current weekly lesson plans, evaluations and grades for assigned learning activities in the Student Information System (SIS).
* Evaluates student performance in class, clinical and simulation, using approved program student evaluation tools.
* Communicates students' clinical and lab progress, concerns, and absences to the Program Director in a timely manner.
* Creates a learning environment for students inclusive of diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds.
* Collaborates with faculty and staff from other departments and divisions to promote communication, coordinate programs and support student success.
* Incorporates, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning, laboratory and office environments.
* Posts and maintains office hours and advises students per the Full-Time Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.
* Completes instructional duties, reports and paperwork assigned by the dean or program director in a timely manner.
* Attends and participates in program, division, department, committee meetings and in-service programs.
* Keeps professionally current by participating in professional development and other activities. Maintains current credentials or licensures as required by the program or accreditation.
* Teach at least one evening class, skills lab or clinical section per year as needed.
* Maintains and emphasizes safe working conditions and practices.
* Complies with all MHCC Board policies and administrative regulations.
* Complies with the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) policies and regulations.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelors degree in Nursing
* Three years of recent experience as a registered nurse in an acute, community based or long-term care setting
* A current unencumbered registered nurse license in the State of Oregon, or ability to be licensed in Oregon with a current unencumbered RN license in another state.
* Experience in clinical supervision of students or nurses
* Knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office, PowerPoint construction, database applications, e-mail and electronic learning systems
* Current driver's license, insurance, and the ability to be insured by the college's insurance carrier
* Current Health Care Provider CPR card, and documentation of immunizations

Desired Qualifications

* Master's degree in nursing with focus on education track
* Previous experience in nursing education with documented course work in education and or curriculum development and clinical supervision
* Acute medical-surgical nursing experience with some experience in long term care
* Understanding of the LPN role and previous experience working with individuals holding that license

SALARY

Salary placement will be based on applicable education and/or years of relevant equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
