The objective of the Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL), by virtue of their training and expertise, is to discuss and provide scientific and therapeutic information to Healthcare Professionals and, researchers viewed by their peers to be authorities in their therapeutic field (Clinical and Scientific Leaders).

The MSL interaction with their Audience is built on the credibility of the scientific exchange. This ongoing exchange is possible because of the long-term relationship and the trust that the Clinical and Scientific Leader (CSL) develops with the MSL, due to unbiased information that they supply. All MSL practices are strictly scientific based and therefore non-promotional.

The MSL is responsible for creating early awareness and acceptance of the scientific evidence in support of new and existing MSD products and claims. The MSL also provides relevant scientific background information to CSLs involved in formulary listings, treatment guidelines and Public Health programs.

The MSL will complete his/her tasks in a manner fully consistent with MSD commitment to our Values and Standards, policies, procedures, industry standards and all laws and regulations.

Primary Activities/Responsibilities

Scientific Leaders and other Opinion Leaders

- Share medical information with brand aligned national/regional Key Opinion Leaders and Local Practice Leaders. Shares high level educational scientific information and clinical guidelines, differentiating product attributes and outcomes studies.
- Identify and implements medical initiatives for development of new & existing products.
- Create and deliver presentation of new information on our products to internal and external customers.
- Give medical/scientific support to Area Managers and Sales Representatives.
- Build and maintain advance disease, product & therapy knowledge with other relevant key stakeholders.
- Provide responses to questions from local customers, which are not developed by global or regional.
- Prepare and develop the market for new products and claims/indications, ensuring favorable SL support prior to launch/ roll-out.
- Provide literature search and information services, through expertise in a variety of areas, including the use of computerized medical databases, attendance at state-of-the-art scientific meetings and accurate analysis and interpretation of scientific literature.
- Develop CME-projects with key scientific leaders, key influencers and third parties to facilitate adoption of best medical practices for physicians, health care institutions and patients.
- Develop and continuously update a detailed key opinion leader plan with actionable objectives.
- Support and develops university research rounds, distinguished speaker lecture series and other education programs, designed to transfer information to CSLs at the highest scientific levels.
- Provide to CSLs literature that will allow understanding of the scientific evidence in support of scientific strategy platform.
- Fully integrate the Medical Director on an ongoing basis as well as with pertinent local, regional Medical and other HCP Societies and associations in order to optimize patient outcomes
- Contribute, draft and execute Franchise Medical Affairs plans (MAP).

Interactions with Physicians

- Schedule meetings with Health Care professionals who might be interested in engaging in scientific discussions.
- Provide field based medical information/education to physicians.
- Deliver presentations about latest disease information, diagnostics and treatment as well as MSD product information.

Research Projects

- Bring in investigator initiated studies to the Medical Department (Medical Manager or Medical Director). Follow thoroughly with investigators until publication / presentation.
- Provide support to ClinOps on site identification. Serve as scientific support for product studies.
- Provide suggestions for clinical research (investigator, objectives, design, sites and studies).

Congresses, Symposia and Meetings

- Collaborate, when requested, in the coordination of information on pre-events and summaries post-events. Attend congresses & symposia. Report on the events.
- Represent the Medical Department at Local and European Medical Congresses and Conventions, managing medical education booths.
- Monitor and facilitate pre-Congress abstract submissions to the local Medical Affairs Department, attend poster sessions and oral presentations.
- Assist in CME programs development and organization and participates in scientific committees/ Participate in RSAT.

Advisory Boards

- Assist in Advisory Board activities, including Specialty Advisory Boards, national and regional Advisory Boards and others, when needed.
- Participate and manage Local Scientific Advisory Boards: ongoing studies/ Future studies/Areas of research/Emerging trends/Therapeutic guidelines.
- Participate in International Advisory Boards (when needed).

Supporting responsibilities are

- Medical Training
- Provide Information and Interpretation of the literature to the Field Force.
- Provide clinical education and therapy training support to sales forces, on the Field.

Qualifications

- Degree : MD, DMD, PHD or DVM
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Credibility through scientific knowledge and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative environment with both internal and external colleagues
- Ability to think strategically and to align medical and commercial strategies.
- Strong communication skills. Ability to effectively present and discuss scientific data, as well as demonstrated strength in public speaking and scientific presentations.
- Previous Pharma experience and clinical experience an advantage
- Previous experience in Oncology- an advantage.
- Fluency in Hebrew and English.
