About MOHONK MOUNTAIN HOUSE

Mohonk Mountain House is a 135-year-old Victorian, full-American plan, National Historic Landmark resort offering 261 rooms with 32 different room types. Located on a half-mile long mountaintop lake, Mohonk is situated on the Shawangunk Mountain Range in the Mid-Hudson valley, 90 miles north of New York City. The House is surrounded by 8,400 acres of preserved property dotted with carriage roads, rock scrambles, hiking trails and scenic vistas. In addition to hiking, the resort offers boating (paddleboats, rowboats and canoes), lake-swimming, fishing, tennis, golf, horseback and carriage rides, a fitness center, spa services, a putting green, a skating rink and other activities. Over 30 theme programs are also hosted each year including Murder Mystery Weekend, Garden Holiday, Ballroom Dancing, Hudson Valley Harvest and The Grand Traditions Continue. Guests may enjoy a leisurely walk through award winning show gardens or absorb the surrounding beauty while relaxing in a Mohonk rocker on one of our three porches. Weddings are also a Mohonk specialty. Many seasonal positions open each April at the Mountain House. Recruiting is done for all departments, including the Kitchen, Dining Room, Beverage Service, Conference Services, Recreation, Stables, Security, Front Office, Guest Services, Housekeeping, Grounds and Greenhouse. Seasonal positions run through Labor Day at the minimum and many run into mid-November. Permanent or year-round positions become available throughout the year as well. Mohonk employs approximately 550 staff members year-round and 775 during the busy season. Founded by Quakers Albert and Alfred Smiley in 1869, Mohonk is a fourth generation family-owned resort. Bert Smiley, our current President, is the great-grandson of Albert and Alfred's half-brother, Daniel. Daniel and Albert Smiley ran Mohonk for many years. The Smiley family generously extends and encourages use of the hotel recreational facilities by employees, being mindful, of course, that guests are always to be served first. "A unique resort" is how Mohonk has been described. Entering the Mountain House is like taking a step back in time. The scenery surrounding the Mountain House is breathtaking. The emphasis in this unique, natural setting is on re-creation and renewal of the body, mind and spirit. Each year the family strives to " ... keep Mohonk the same, only better."
