Position Details:

Keep Austin Housed places 35 full-time members in 11 nonprofits across Austin. Members work directly with individuals to overcome barriers to housing, employment, and personal stability. In addition to work at their sites, members develop personally and professionally through team-building events, trainings, and service opportunities.

Position Summary:

Keep Austin Housed (KAH), an AmeriCorps project of Front Steps, affects positive change in the lives of children, youth, and adults who are at-risk of experiencing, currently experiencing, or have formerly experienced homelessness. Members work directly with clients to overcome barriers to housing, employment, and personal stability through case management. In addition to work at their sites, members develop personally and professionally through team-building events, trainings, and service opportunities.

Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities:

? Serve full-time from September 2019-July 2020. Work hours vary but are typically 9:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday.

? Serve for 11 months as part of AmeriCorps, a national service initiative to help others and meet critical needs in the community. For more information about AmeriCorps, visit this link.

? Aid with existing case management services to address specific barriers clients are experiencing regarding his or her housing, employment, and/or personal stability goals. This involves maintaining a caseload of clients and meeting in-person with them, assessing their needs and developing action plans to meet goals, and locating resources and referrals for clients to help them meet their needs.

? Educate the community about homelessness as well as recruit, train and

coordinate volunteers in supporting client, site, and project needs.

? Attend regular trainings and participate in community service projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

? Members must be at least 20 years of age.

? Some college coursework.

? Experience establishing and maintaining professional boundaries.

? Experience working with families, children, adolescents, and single adults in issue areas of shelter and housing, mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, general health, education, and refugee services.

? Consent to a National Criminal Background Check before beginning service.

Physical Requirements:

? Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

? Work/volunteer/intern experience with homeless and/or social services.

? Knowledge of, and strong working relationship with, community partners.

? Bilingual (Spanish and English and/or ASL and English highly preferred).

? Reliable transportation, such as a personal vehicle.
