Job Description


The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patients with outstanding medical care, including preventative medicine and health maintenance. The Medical Assistant will provide exceptional customer service at all times. The Medical Assistant will report to the FM Clinic Director. This position functions in a supportive capacity for clinic staff and physicians. This individual must have flexibility to work the scheduled clinic hours to ensure complete office coverage. The hours of this position will be:

Monday: 8-4:30 PM

Tues: 7-3:30 PM

Wed: 9-3:30 PM (one Wednesday a month 9-5:30 PM)

Thursday: 9-5:30 PM

Fri: 7-3:30 PM

Sat: one Sat a month 7-12:30 PM

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Opens and closes down the 6th floor area
* Participates actively in pre-clinic huddle and weekly meetings
* Communicates professionally, and works collegially with the other members of the team
* Schedule patient visits accurately by provider and backfill any cancellations as appropriate
* Greet/escort patient to exam room and escort exiting patients
* Record changes in patients' medical history and update vital signs
* Becomes proficient in current EMR system
* Prepare patient rooms including cleaning exam tables, changing pillowcases and stocking rooms
* Prep rooms for procedures prior to appointments
* Sanitation of exams rooms in-between patients
* Maintains supplies in each patient room
* Provide patients with appropriate information regarding medical procedures
* Maintain records and perform filing duties, within HIPAA guidelines
* Learn and assist with scanning documents
* Obtain test results (labs, X-rays, MRI, CT, hospital discharger records)
* Call patients regarding test results, as instructed by physicians
* Ensure incoming phone messages/mail/faxes get to the appropriate physicians
* Order equipment, supplies, medications, vaccines and other items as needed
* Other duties as assigned
* Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
* Must have regular, predictable, in-person attendance

Supervisory Responsibilities

The position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

HS diploma or GED equivalent required. Must possess a Medical Assistant Certificate and be in good standing with the state licensing board. Must have 2-4 years of experience as a Medical Assistant which includes previous experience taking vitals, answering phones, interacting with patients and their medical issues, scheduling appointments, backfilling patient cancellations, insurance authorization as appropriate, and support the requirements of various providers. Must be knowledgeable in HIPAA. Ability to be organized, multi-task and have basic understanding of prioritizing patient emergencies. Knowledge of business office practices, procedures, and equipment required.

Computer Skills

General computer literacy necessary, with proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Knowledge and proficiency with EMR systems.

Language Skills

Intermediate skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability

Intermediate skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Mathematical Ability

Basic skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage and to interpret bar graphs.
