Title: Full-time Computer Science Faculty

Unit: MCCC Unit Full-Time Faculty

Department: Computer Science

Reports to: Dean of Science, Engineering, Technology and Math (STEM)

Date: 2/2/2018

General Description of Responsibilities:

The Computer Science faculty member for this position is a creative, learning-centered and knowledgeable individual who will develop and teach courses in the Computer Science Department, delivered in several languages, including Visual Basic, C++, Java, and assembly language. The faculty member will work with the dean and faculty to develop student learning outcomes and assessment strategies, and will participate in college service and student advisement. The successful candidate is committed to inclusive excellence and diversity, and continuous professional improvement.


* Develop and teach courses in Computer Science. Deliver courses in a variety of programming languages, including Visual Basic, C++, Java, and assembly language, and on various platforms, including Windows and Linux. Deliver courses in Data Structures and Secure Software Development.
* Infuse current software development standards, conventions and practices, and real world examples into classroom materials and discussions
* Participate in ongoing curriculum review, assessment, and development
* Develop instructional material consistent with course, program and institutional student learning outcomes
* Develop and apply technology in and out of the classroom, including use of the Blackboard Learning Management System
* Teach classes and attend meetings on both MCC campuses.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to recruit, advise, and retain students
* Advise students majoring in STEM disciplines.
* Embrace the dynamic and changing nature of computer science, expand that knowledge base, and incorporate that learning into the curriculum
* Provide significant advising to help students appropriately plan and align course selection with the requirements of the Computer Science and Digital Forensics degree programs
* Develop and apply innovative instructional methods including high impact practices that engage students of varying learning styles and abilities and backgrounds.
* Develop and apply assessment strategies that maximize learning and measure student learning outcomes at the course, department, and institutional level
* Develop and apply pedagogy that engage a diverse student body of varying learning styles, backgrounds and abilities and promote critical thinking and other employability skills
* Participate in Computer Science department and STEM initiatives
* Participate in division and college committees and activities
* Commit to continuous professional improvement.
* Teach classes and attend meetings on all MCC campuses.
* Work collegially with faculty from all different disciplines.
* Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population including individuals of identities such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and veterans, including those with different levels of academic preparation, and varying physical and learning abilities.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing

* Master's degree or higher in Computer Science or Software Engineering
* Successful teaching experience with computer science courses.
* Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population including individuals of diverse identities such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and veterans, including those with different levels of academic preparation, and varying physical and learning abilities.


* Successful teaching experience and demonstrated ability at the community college level, and an understanding of and commitment to the role of the community college in higher education.
* Experience with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) initiatives
* Experience with research experiences for undergraduates (REU) or for teachers (RET) or with internship/externship/field experiences for undergraduates in STEM
* Experience in software development in a business or research setting
* Knowledge of, experience in, and/or teaching experience in Digital Forensics
* Willingness to develop new courses as needed
* Demonstrated ability to provide a variety of alternative instructional methodologies and assessment strategies.
* Openness to interdisciplinary instruction, and ability to work collegially with faculty from different disciplines
* Course development and advising experience
* Experience using high impact practices such as learning communities, capstone courses, undergraduate research and collaborative projects as part of pedagogical practices.
* Bilingual skills

Additional Information:

This is a full-time faculty position with benefits.

Salary: The Full-Time Faculty salary under the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement is based on the classification placement table with a base salary of $45,996; actual salary will be determined in accordance with the classification system of the MCCC/MTA Agreement based on the candidate's academic credentials, related experience, related licenses and certifications. Anticipated starting salary for candidates possessing both the required and preferred qualifications posted above is not expected to exceed $55,000.
