Job Description

Microsemi's Discrete Products Group (DPG) offers one of the industry's most comprehensive power and RF/microwave discrete semiconductor product portfolios. The DPG encompasses two business units, the Power Discrete & Modules BU and the RF/Microwave Discretes BU. Markets the PDM & RF/MW Discretes BU's address include: alternative energy, industrial, medical, defense, commercial aviation, communications, embedded systems, motor control, power solutions, sensors and security. Microsemi is planning to fill the following position with a talented, creative and motivated individual.

This position is for a junior to intermediate level applications engineer for the Microsemi Discrete Products Group. Working for the Power Discrete and Module section the applicant will have responsibility for Applications Engineering and Strategic business development at customers in various regions of the world. The initial primary market segments of support, but not limited to these, are Aviation, Space and Defense. There will also be common applications activity across all market segments where adjacencies can be applied. This position would suit a person wishing to actively develop and positively grow into the role. The following are key responsibilities but are not limited to:

* Applications engineering support for switching and linear power conversion products reporting to the Director of Applications Engineering PDM.
* Provide fast and helpful applications assistance and problem solving to customers, sales reps and resellers across a range of products and solutions.
* Review and manage the PDM capability for delivering application materials, tools and documentation for customers on a global basis for reference designs, demo kits, applications notes, white papers and device models.
* Support Microsemi Teams for the technical content and organization/effectiveness of PDM material, application tools and information on the company web site or otherwise.
* Work with Microsemi Teams to translate customer intelligence and their future platform requirements into next generation proprietary new product concepts for consideration and business development proposals.
* Evaluate competitive devices and publish benchmarking test reports.
* Present at relevant conferences and regularly publish articles in the major trade journals.
* Provide insight into the direction of emerging industry trends and "be connected" to the engineering management teams at key customers.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills/attributes:

* Internship at Aviation, Space or Defense Contractor.
* Technical background and experience in the design and development of power system platforms preferably in ACDC power supplies, DCDC converters as well as familiarity with inverter platforms across a wide range of applications.
* Experience and knowledge of power semiconductor devices such as TVS and other diodes, IGBTs, MOSFFETs Super-junction MOSFETs, Wide Band Gap devices such as SiC and GaN, gate drivers and controller ICs would be a plus. Power levels range from 10W up to 10KW++.
* Systematic approach to problem solving and critical thinking/planning.
* Self-motivated/self-starter.
* Ability to function outside of core competency with minimal technical support
* * Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
* Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
* Ability to build strong, influential relationships
* Ability to work effectively in an interrupt-driven, fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
* Ability to take the initiative and drive for results

Preferred Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:
* 2-4 years of related experience
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or comparable
* Ability and Willingness to travel
