Job Description

Microchip's Power & Discretes Business is rapidly expanding in the wide bandgap power area and is looking for an intern with a strong background in power electronics and/or power semiconductor devices.

The Power Electronics intern would be primarily involved in supporting the product group in commercializing Microchip's Next Generation silicon carbide (SiC) Schottky barrier diodes and Power MOSFETs. This involves working with the device, test and product engineers to build test boards, benchmarking the products, performing reliability and ruggedness tests such as UIS, short-circuit, switching tests, SPICE modeling and supporting datasheet generation.

The intern would have a tremendous opportunity to contribute and learn in a fast-paced semiconductor company in the midst of a product launch. The individual is expected to have excellent communication skills including writing technical reports and publications. They would have the ability to collaborate with multiple groups within the organization and learn from renowned technical experts in this area.

The position is based in Bend, OR, consistently rated as one of the most desirable places in the US for its active lifestyle and stunning outdoors.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have graduate level research experience in power electronics and/or power semiconductor devices. A doctoral student or a Master's student with research experience would fit well in this role. Should relish hands-on lab work including building circuits, testing devices and propose innovative solutions while encountering challenges. The ability to design and run simulations, and create/review schematics and board layout is highly desired. Having power semiconductor device design knowledge is a plus, but not a requirement.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Must currently be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or related program
* Technical background in power electronics, motor control, and/or power semiconductor physics
* Systematic approach to problem solving and organization
* Self-motivated, highly driven and does not need hand-holding

Preferred Qualifications:

* Enrollment in a Master's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering program
* Prior REU or internship experience
* Experience in SPICE modeling, SiC and GaN a plus.
* Experience in building gate drive circuits, inverters, DC-DC converters and high-voltage power electronic circuits >650V
