This Co-op experience provides participants with a meaningful, relevant work experience as part of their academic studies. In addition to daily responsibilities, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a series of structured activities designed to enhance their learning experience including:

* Presentation Challenges

At the conclusion of this position, co-ops will have increased their knowledge of investing, the mutual fund industry, employee engagement, and a firm understanding of how the legal department works at an asset management company.

MFS co-op positions are a 6-month commitment (January 7, 2020- June 26, 2020), working Monday - Friday and work between 35-40 hours. Our program is designed for undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in a co-op program through their college or university and can meet our requirements.

About the Proxy Voting Co-op

In this position, you will be responsible for assisting the Proxy Voting Team within the Legal Department in a variety of daily processes and project related tasks.

Principal Responsibilities

* Assist the Proxy Voting Team in the day-to-day application of the Proxy Voting Policies as well as the Team's monitoring of the application of the Proxy Voting Policies and the voting of certain proxies ("Standard Proxy Items") by the proxy administration firm that performs various proxy voting-related administrative services for MFS (the "Proxy Administrator").
* Assist the Team with client communications regarding the Proxy Voting Policies and the proxy voting records of a client.
* Assist the Team in the preparation of materials for meetings of the MFS Proxy Voting Committee and other internal committees and working groups.
* Input and update multiple data fields in spreadsheets and status/recordkeeping charts relating to our proxy voting activities.
* Prepare records for scanning, filing, disposition or archive.
* Attend meetings to learn about topics related to proxy voting as well as meetings to learn about other Legal topics and projects.
* Assist in setting up meetings with internal and external business partners.
* Other tasks/projects as requested.

Qualifications

* Strong attention to detail.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Ability to complete multiple tasks timely and efficiently.
* Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and able to develop proficiency in MFS systems as required to perform the duties of the position.
* Coursework in paralegal studies and/or business law preferred.
