With over $500 billion combined domestic and international general account portfolio and a multi-billion dollar annual cash flow, Investments is an important contributor to MetLife’s financial performance.  The Investments Finance organization provides direct support to the Investments department in number of ways in accounting, reporting, and projections.

                                                                                            

Key Responsibilities:  

The projections group is responsible for producing regular and stress projections on the investments portfolio, under a variety of scenarios.

The group currently uses an in-house model to calculate these projections, but we are now embarking on the implementation of a new vendor product to replace it.  We are looking for someone to play a major role in this implementation.

  • Work on the implementation and configuration of the QRM Analytical Framework, Investments Finance’s new platform for projecting portfolio behavior.  This will largely consist of modeling the following types of information:
    • Asset specification and behavior within the framework.  Certain liabilities will also need to be modeled.  Asset classes include bonds, equities, real estate, mortgages, and derivatives.
    • Scenario specification within QRM.
    • Reinvestment/sale instructions for future periods.
    • Accounting rules and mapping of forecasted results using those rules.
  • Help define process by which data is provided to QRM.  Work with IT on implementing and testing that process.
  • Define, design, build, and test reports using data produced by QRM to meet business needs.  Will also include research into various reporting methods and working with other groups to improve reporting quality and efficiency.
  • Following implementation, ongoing support for the forecasting model within QRM and for users of the system.

 

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

 

  • Exposure to a broad array of financial asset classes, with a good understanding of their mechanics. 
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP and Stat) and how they apply in various situations.  Ability to deep dive into specific topics when necessary.
  • Experience with QRM a strong plus, experience with other portfolio/asset modeling software a plus as well
  • Strong problem solving skills, especially given various levels of available information
  • Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and still reach appropriate conclusions
  • Comfortable working in cross functional teams with people from IT, accounting, portfolio management, finance, asset sector management, and insurance LOBs (and others as well)
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), especially with regard to technical topics.  Able to clearly communicate technical information to non-technical audiences in both summary and detailed forms.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and comfortable working with large, complex spreadsheets
  • CFA/MBA/CPA a plus
  • 5 - 10+ years of experience in financial services industry, covering accounting, portfolio analysis, asset analysis, and/or financial operations.
  • Knowledge of SQL programming a plus

     

 

 

Preferred:
