Role Value Proposition:

Reporting to the AVP of IT Governance, Risk and Compliance (“GRC”) of Brighthouse Financial (BHF), the Manager of Third Party IT Risk (Manager) will have accountability for managing IT / cyber risks across third parties or business partners that support BHF operations leveraging the company wide third party risk management policy and framework.

The Manager will assist in the identification of third parties (and fourth parties) who have access to BHF’s data, understand the information security risks that third party poses to the organization, raise awareness of risks and support the implementation of the third party security risk management processes.

The Manager will liaise with the procurement / third party risk management team to support cyber and IT related risk coverage in the third party risk management program and issues management, and execution of action plans related to IT and cybersecurity of third parties.  The Manager will work with executives and senior management across business areas to ensure compliance with regulatory and policy requirements from a cyber and IT risk perspective.  The Manager will also be responsible for collaborating with Brighthouse Financial’ s cybersecurity, IT risk management, operational risk management, legal, compliance, audit functions and GRC solution enablement teams.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide direction and requirements for cyber and IT related risk coverage in the third party risk management program by providing input on the scope of assessments, on-boarding and exit requirements based on the services, products and data arrangement between BHF and third party
  • Review the cybersecurity related assessment results for third parties who have access to BHF data
  • Discuss and confirm cybersecurity related issues and severity with stakeholders (Procurement, business areas and assessment team)
  • Recommend action on issues based on BHF’s risk criteria and business needs, and when necessary, determine remediation plans and timing for issues identified related to the third party
  • Assist in identifying and managing cyber / IT risk contract compliance gaps for third parties
  • Evaluate artifacts provided by third parties to address cyber and IT risk issues
  • Support technology risk identification and mitigation specific to third party on-boarding and exit strategies


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Information Systems or related major), MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • 6+ years of broad technology experience in financial services with a strong record of success in managing IT and information security risk associated with third parties. 
  • Significant knowledge of regulatory requirements and leading practices regarding third party risk management.
  • Intelligent and persuasive leader with good interpersonal, verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven experience on performing and managing IT and information security assessments, and audits related to IT General Controls, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, SOC reports, physical security, and privacy.
  • Proven experience managing across vendor sourced solutions and consultants, ensuring vendor performance and deliverables meet specifications.
