Summary

Under general supervision, assists the pharmacist to interpret physician's orders, select, assemble and place medications in

association with a patient's name for both inpatient and outpatient services. Assures the accurate and timely distribution of

medications, IV solutions, floor stock and controlled substances to patient care areas. Is responsible for accurate charge/credit

functions for inpatients and outpatients, interacts with Medical Center Personnel, physicians and others via verbal and personal

contact.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Accurate medication order interpretation and drug product selection is required in the processing of physician's orders, filling patient medication drawers, employee prescriptions, floor stock, controlled substances.
* Filling Patient Medication Drawers: Able to operate the Robot-Rx for cart fill and generate manual pick sheets as needed.
* Filling Employee Prescriptions: Review for completeness of patient information and assure that all legally required information is present. Fill out-patient prescription in accordance with State and Federal laws and regulations.
* Monthly Unit Inspection: - Inspections monthly, assigned hospital area for outdated medications appropriated stock levels, crash cart dating, etc.
* Responsible for the prompt and efficient distribution of patient medications.
* Daily exchange of unit dose cassettes is completed through the utilization of transfer carts. During exchange will document temperature of each areas refrigerator and take steps to notify maintenance if the temperature is inappropriate.
* Implement delivery-pickup functions when pneumatic tube system is inoperative.
* Records of distribution and usage of controlled substances are filed for the purpose of meeting federal and state legal regulations.
* Repackage bulk medications not available in unit of use packaging from the manufacturer. Prepare according to established procedure.
* Participate on various departmental and interdepartmental committees.
* Extemporaneously compound pharmaceutical preparations.
* Enter medication information into computer when appropriate to be verified by the pharmacist.
* Must be familiar with SRMC drug Formulary, generic and therapeutic substitutions, and any other policy pertaining to the Formulary,
* storage and distribution of medications.
* IV Admixture Area: Prepare IV admixtures using proper sterile technique and procedure.
* Other duties as assigned.
