Mercy Corps responsibilities

For the duration of this internship assignment the intern will receive:

* Workspace within the MC office in Portland, OR
* Access to Mercy Corps online tools
* All other tools, materials and communication requirements for this project to be undertaken

Intern responsibilities

Intern will remain responsible for all costs associated with:

* Travel to and from Mercy Corps HQ
* Maintaining their personal computer which will be used for the internship
* Accommodation, travel and living expenses
* All other costs associated with this internship

The Global HQ People Team has identified five key priorities we are currently working on. At the center of these priorities is our commitment to creating/sustaining an impactful Country People in our country programs. Achieving high impact People function in our country programs is an effort that not only requires a strong partnership with our 40+ Country People teams, but also requires a cross-functional approach within the Global HQ People Team. This internship is designed to help lead and project manage the diverse work streams identified that will contribute to effective support - in terms of tools, systems and opportunities - for the People Teams in the field.


* The intern will build practical skills in project management, information management, internal communications and data analysis.
* The intern will learn about the People Team function as it operates within a country program.
* The intern will gain experience in a multi-cultural work environment, coordinating and communicating with a global team across time zones and geographies, many of whom operate in complex, challenging environments.
* Finally, the intern may complete informational interviews with other Mercy Corps staff members working in his/her area(s) of interest, in order to increase his/her knowledge of Mercy Corps' work in these areas.


* Lead the development of Field Practitioners guide - a wiki that includes resources and explanations of job functions for field People Team members - while working with subject matter experts.
* Support the implementation of a communication strategy using email, WorkPlace, and potentially designing a webpage.
* Manage the work plan and deliverables for this priority through convening Working Group meetings, agendas and minutes/action items.
* Assist with the engagement of field based People Team members and senior HR Leads in particular.
* Ensure the Country People Contact List is still working and being updated as new team members join the People Team.
* Support exploring onboarding for field leadership leveraging the existing onboarding experience pilot


* University degree in progress or recently completed (within 1 year)
* Excellent writing and communication skills
* Excellent organizational abilities and detail-oriented
* Self-starter and independent
* Initiative and the ability to work with others in a multicultural environment, and with stakeholders in multiple geographies
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and experience with Wikis preferred
* Interest in education, training and/or evaluation a plus
* Familiarity with Google docs and forms, distance learning platforms and other collaboration tools a plus
* Interest in Human Resources, People team and or capacity building a plus
