Job Description

Your role:

To perform routine analysis and provide laboratory support.

* Schedule, set-up, and perform routine assays according to established protocols
* Review protocol and set-up assays according to priority level
* Determine chemicals and quantities needed
* Select and prepare appropriate equipment and/or instrumentation
* Perform procedure independently and accurately according to an established protocol
* Complete the volume of work required to achieve departmental goals and meet the established deadlines
* Document and communicate status of assays and results
* Interpret results accurately
* Communicate any aberrant observations with assay or assay results. Decide (with a supervisor or designee) if adjustments are necessary
* Prepare accurate, complete, and legible records in accordance with established procedures
* Maintain procedures up-to-date by making appropriate changes in written protocols when needed as established by supervisor or designee
* Contribute to the support functions of the laboratory
* Ensure lab supplies are adequately stocked
* Prepare testing reagents (e.g. buffers, gels, standards, etc.) as needed
* Maintain (clean, calibrate, etc.) equipment. Properly document and notify appropriate individuals if calibration is overdue
* Maintain a clean work area and properly dispose of waste
* Perform other group responsibilities thoroughly and on time
* Ensure worksheets and other quality documents accurately reflect current procedure. Document procedures with appropriate technical detail in writing as directed by supervisor
* Notify supervisor of any deviation from current procedure
* Utilize system of quality documents for recording maintenance, calibration and usage of equipment and instruments as directed by supervisor
* Properly label chemicals and reagents with all needed quality documentation
* Participate as needed in quality audits including preparation of responses to questions
* Successfully complete required quality training
* Miscellaneous duties and tasks as assigned
* Exemplary attendance and adherence to schedule

Who you are:

* Required-2 years college in the Life or Physical Sciences or equivalent relevant experience
* Desired-2 year Lab Technician program
* Required-2 years college in the Life or Physical Sciences or equivalent relevant experience
* Desired-2 year Lab Technician program
* General analytical techniques. Basic PC operation. Basic knowledge of chemistry and math. Source of basic technical information. Basic analytical laboratory skills. Time management. Attention to detail. Verbal and written communication skill

Environmental Conditions:

* General Office Environment: Noise level in office environment is generally quiet.
* Lab Environment: Works near moving mechanical parts. Is frequently required to wear appropriate protective gear, (hard hats, glasses/goggles, chemical resistant suits, gloves, safety shoes) and other personal protection equipment "PPE" to protect themselves from toxic or corrosive chemicals in the forms of liquids, solids, vapors or airborne particles.
* Distribution/Warehouse Environment: : Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. Is Occasionally required to wear appropriate protective gear, (hard hats, glasses/goggles, chemical resistant suits, gloves, safety shoes) and other personal protection equipment "PPE" to protect themselves from toxic or corrosive chemicals in the forms of liquids, solids, vapors or airborne particles. The work area may occasionally be wet, humid abnormally hot or cold.
* Facility Services Environment: Regularly works near moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, sources of electrical shock, vibrations, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals for which protective equipment and procedures must be used. The workplace noise level is loud, occasionally very loud. Occasionally works in high, precarious places. Must have valid driver's license. Performs work related travel.

Physical Requirements:

* If performing office duties: Employee is required to sit, stand, hear, and use hands to operate all office equipment. Employee must view computer monitors for long periods of time. Vision requirements are close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Employee occasionally will be required to lift, generally no more than 25 pounds.
* If performing lab duties: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach above the shoulder, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch or crawl for long periods of time. The employee must be able to talk, hear, taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds unassisted and ability to push and pull heavy materials to complete assignment. The employee may be required to live more poundage with assistance. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Regularly uses phones, computers, computer monitors and all office/laboratory equipment. The employee is also required to type at a computer keyboard and have the ability to read CRTs/computer monitors.
* If performing warehouse/distribution duties: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, walk, reach above the shoulder, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch or crawl for long periods of time. The employee must be able to talk, hear, taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted. Employee may be required to move more than 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Regularly uses phones, computers, computer monitors and all office/laboratory equipment. The employee is also required to type at a computer keyboard and have the ability to read CRTs/computer monitors
* If performing facility services duties: Ability to walk long distances and be able to stay on your feet for eight hours. the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach above the shoulder, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch or crawl for long periods of time. Use hands and feet to operate equipment. Occasionally lift 50 pounds unassisted and additional weight with assistance. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to wear a hard hat, safety shoes, eye protection, hearing protection, protective gloves, respirator and face shield (when required)
